DPM
Scheduling · distributed processing
Work planning with resource availability.
DPM is a task organisation and execution control system that links planning to resource availability. Projects, operations, requirements and schedules form a shared model: changed conditions require reconsidering when work can run and which resources it can use.

01
Challenge
A task list and calendar do not establish whether resources are available to execute a plan. In DPM, an operation is linked to a resource requirement, while the schedule determines the actual allocation period. Deadlines can therefore be considered alongside execution constraints.
02
Solution
The model distinguishes projects, operations, material and labour resources, reservation requests and schedules. Nested objects must respect their parent time boundaries. The server architecture separates process coordination, request handling, schedule generation and renegotiation. Web interfaces present related data through calendars, Gantt charts and graphs.
03
Outcome
Work included the DPM server and the DPM_UI and DPM_UI2 interface variants. The implementation uses Python and web technologies, with a shared model connecting projects and resources. Its central idea is to move from specifying desired dates to reconciling a plan with resource availability.
