Logos. Recording a freight order before choosing a vehicle

In 2006 I.V.A. was designing a system for a transport company. An early question concerned the first contact with a customer. What could a dispatcher record before assigning a vehicle?

The cargo and the customer’s requirements were already known. The dispatcher could identify a route and the group of vehicles suited to the job. An individual vehicle would be chosen later. Requiring its number at first contact would leave work already under way outside the system.

Logos separated those two moments. The draft captured the need, and assignment of a vehicle belonged to the move into operations. Templates were envisaged for recurring shipments. A route description could supply a sequence of tasks and documents and, in turn, a work list for each person responsible. The freight order became the record that could follow a shipment from the initial inquiry to completion.

The order runs from vehicle selection to the last required route document.
